Neck lift

A neck lift is the surgery that corrects skin laxity, muscle banding and the deep fat deposits of the neck to restore a defined contour. The Deep Neck Lift goes one step further and works on the deep structures, not just the surface.

What is a neck lift?

A neck lift restores definition to the contour between the face and the neck when the cause is no longer just fat: skin that has lost elasticity, visible bands of the platysma muscle, or deep fat deposits that no external treatment can reach. In its most complete version — the Deep Neck Lift — the surgery works precisely on those deep structures, which are what define the angle of the neck, and not only on the superficial skin.

That difference matters: tightening only the skin produces short-lived, artificial-looking results. Working on the structure — muscle and deep fat compartments — produces a natural contour that ages well, because the cause was corrected rather than its reflection on the surface.

Who is this surgery for?

For people who notice a “sagging” jawline, vertical bands on the neck, loose skin under the chin, or a blurred neck angle that submental liposuction alone would not solve. It is common from the age of 40–45 onward, although the indication depends on each patient’s anatomy and is confirmed in an in-person evaluation, where the surgeon defines whether the case calls for a neck lift, a Deep Neck Lift or a combination with other procedures.

How is it performed?

The incisions are hidden in natural creases around and behind the ear, and under the chin when the deep plane is accessed. The surgeon repositions the muscle, treats the deep fat and removes only the necessary excess skin. This is surgery in complex anatomy — the nerves, glands and vessels of the neck — which is why the surgeon’s training matters more here than in almost any other facial procedure.

Recovery

A support band is worn for the first days and the swelling subsides progressively. Most patients return to their routine in one to two weeks, with specific care instructions explained in detail at the evaluation. If you are traveling from abroad, this is the procedure where planning your stay with the team matters most — your post-operative checks are completed before you fly home. The results in our published cases are documented at 4 to 6 months, once the contour has fully settled.

How much does a neck lift cost in Costa Rica?

A neck lift starts at $3,000. Where your case lands depends on the extent of the surgery: a necklift and a Deep Neck Lift are different operations, and your plan may combine submental liposuction or other procedures in the same session. Anesthesia and operating-room time follow from that plan.

After your pre-assessment you receive a complete, itemized quote over WhatsApp. If you are traveling from abroad, you know the full cost before you book your flights.

Is this your case?

The only way to know for sure is an evaluation. Write to us — in English — and the team will coordinate it with Dr. Hernández; if you live abroad, it starts with a remote pre-assessment over WhatsApp.
